Volunteer Opportunities

Shaw offers many volunteer opportunities in studio, mobile and on location (EFP) productions. Our volunteer program is designed to provide each participant with a progressive range of current production experiences. There are a variety of positions available including producing, directing, camera, floor-director, teleprompter operator, production assistant, video tape operator or graphics operator. Whether you are pursuing a career in television or looking for a challenging extracurricular activity or hobby, community television volunteering has something for everyone.

April 26, 1:00 - 4:00pm

This workshop will outline the producer's role and responsibilities. You will also learn how to develop a story idea into an on air segment, and what it takes to be an effective producer.

The workshop will cover the roles of the television reporter, interviewer and host. You will also learn the basics of the TV interview.

This workshop will cover basic Final Cut Pro editing - loading footage, timeline orientation, adding music, graphics, insert and overwrite edits, keyboard shortcuts, and outputting sequences to tape, along with exporting in digital formats.

You will learn how to transfer footage from a camera card, or a Hard drive. Also how to set up the FCP X layout, learn about libraries, events, and projects. Along with how to use the magnetic timeline, how to do cross edits, and connect clips, how to use keywords for organizing your footage, and how to output your project.
