with our core investment areas. We are committed to supporting organizations that have
a strong impact on our communities.
Supporting our culture
In Medicine Hat, we helped fund the Shaw International Centre for Contemporary
Ceramics, which opened in June 2009 at the Medalta Potteries National Historic Site in the heart
of Medicine Hat's Clay District.
The Shaw Centre celebrates Alberta's contributions to the international ceramic arts community
and is home to the Medalta International Artists in Residence program.
The Historic Clay District is one of the eight tourist attractions in the Canadian Badlands, featured
in Alberta Motor Association's Alberta 100 Journeys.
The museum, nestled in the Medalta Potteries National Historic Site, provides visitors a unique
opportunity to visit a restored 1912 pottery factory, which once produced three-quarters of all
stoneware in Canada.
Powering Canadian athletes
Shaw believes in our Canadian athletes and helped power
them towards excellence at the 2010 Olympic Games in
Vancouver, B.C.
Leading up to the Games, Shaw and Shaw Direct teamed up
to host two Making It Happen auctions and raised more than
$1 million to fund our athletes.
Shaw partnered with the Canadian Athletes Now Fund (CANFund),
which supports our athletes in amateur sports and supplies
grants for living and training expenses. Shaw also has supported
the Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton teams with our Hire-an-Athlete
program and sponsorship.
